My first and last meeting with Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale

About Sant Jarnail Singh, I have written in my book: “My Reminiscences”: - “One day in 1983, I received a telephonic call from S. Ajit Singh Sarhadi asking me to accompany him to Amritsar as he was called by Sant Harchand Singh Longowal for urgent consultations. We reached Amritsar and met Sant Longowal who asked Sarhadi Sahib to meet Sant Bhindranwale so that the differences between the two Sants stood resolved. In the after-noon, we met Sant Bhindranwale but the talks remained inconclusive. I found both the Sants well-intentioned who were the victims of adverse circumstances. They were too good to face the Mephistophelean forces, shrewd political manoeuvres and Machiavellian tactics, where end justifies the means. Sant ji wanted Sarhadi Sahib to meet him in the evening but the latter told him: “Sant ji, as I am not feeling well, it will not be possible for me to meet you in the evening, however, Gur Rattan Pal Singh will meet you on my behalf. I assure you, you will not feel disappointed. “Sant ji asked me to see him at Guru Nanak Niwas at 8.00P.M. the same day. I reached Guru Nanak Niwas at 8.00P.M. and Bhai Amrik Singh took me to the top most floor of Guru Nanak Niwas where Sant ji was already present. The talks being important are being partially reproduced: Sant ji to the author, “Vakil Sahib, how is it that Sarhadi Sahib has got great regards for you?”. The author, “It is Sarhadi Sahib’s greatness who has been patronising a small man like me.”
Sant ji, “Do you think whether (S) Darbara Singh will attack the Golden Temple premises or not?” (S. Darbara Singh remained Chief Minister of Punjab from 07.06.1980 to 07.10.1983).
Author: “ Who is he? He is simply a puppet in the hands of the Prime Minister. It is ony Ms. Indira Gandhi who will attack the holy premises.
Sant Ji “But why?
Author, “ Because, the attack will suit her for winning the forthcoming elections.”
Sant ji, “Why did you not meet me earlier?”
Author, “Sir, I am virtually a labourer. Whatever I earn during the day, I eat at night. No spare money; no spare time.”
Sant ji, “Vakil Sahib, what are the options before me?”
Author, “Either surrender or be prepared to die.” The above talk made Sant ji highly contemplative and introspective. I bowed my head in reverence and sought his permission to go, which permission he gladly granted.”
